Our Story
Jewish Surprise (AKA Chabad of Surprise) was established in 2024, to serve the Jewish community of Surprise Arizona & its neighboring towns. Chabad of Surprise is a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of affiliation or prior level of knowledge. Its sole purpose is to create a warm, welcoming environment to explore and experience Judaism's warm and relevant spiritual inspirations in a non-judgmental and inviting atmosphere.
Since its inception, Chabad of Surprise strives to meet the needs of the community with religious services, and social events, as well as an array of programming including: Holiday events, Hebrew school, Hospital visits, Wedding & Funeral ceremonies and Shabbat meals with services.
Chabad of Surprise is a local, independent and financially self-supporting entity. Every dollar that we receive comes from the generosity of people like you. We are a non profit organization and your donations are fully tax deductible.
Meet the Ceitlins
Rabbi Shlomy & Batya Ceitlin (née Lew) along with their baby Mendel moved to Surprise and founded Chabad of Surprise in 2024.
Prior to moving to Surprise , Rabbi Shlomy grew up in Montreal before pursuing studies in Jewish thought and practice in Toronto & Baltimore, and received his Bachelors in Jewish law from Y.O.E.C. and rabbinical ordination in Brooklyn, NY. His infectious optimism and joyful personality drives his commitment and dedication to his community.
Batya Ceitlin (née Lew) was born and raised in Peoria, AZ. and is a passionate educator, teaching classes for women, as well as educating her own children. She also has exquisite taste which shines through all the events at Chabad she plans.
